Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. Roger B. Burrus Jr. graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1957. He served a surgery internship and an assistant residency and chief residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt from 1957 to 1961. He also served as senior clinical fellow in obstetrics and gynecology at M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in Houston from 1961 to 1962, rendering him one of the earliest entrants into the medical sub-specialty of gynecological cancer.

Dr. Burrus began his own medical practice in 1962, and from 1969 until he retired in 1991, he practiced in association with Dr. H. Newton Lovvorn Jr. Dr. Burrus also served on the clinical faculty in obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt School of Medicine from 1970 until his retirement.
