Historical or Biographical Note

Dr. Harry P. Broquist graduated with his M.S. and Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1941 and 1949, respectively. He worked at the University of Illinois from 1958 to 1969, serving as a biology and chemistry/chemical engineering professor. He began work at Vanderbilt in 1969 as a Professor of Biochemistry and eventually became Director of the Division of Nutrition in 1972. He also served as the Program Director for an NIH Training Grant in Nutrition. Dr. Broquist has had a distinguished career, having published over 125 scientific articles and participated in many national and international symposia. His research has focused importantly on lysine metabolism in microorganisms and animals and has biochemical, nutritional, and toxicological significance. Vanderbilt University hosted a symposium in Dr. Broquist's honor in 1986.
