Fisk University - Vanderbilt University
Cooperative Library Agreement

Beginning in January 2003, Fisk University and Vanderbilt University agreed to provide library access and borrowing privileges to each institution's faculty and students. Such privileges are granted one semester at a time and are initially established at the student or faculty member's home library. The privileges provided approximate those for undergraduate students at each institution. Each institution will hold its own students and faculty accountable for obligations to the other institution, as if these obligations were to the home library itself. Fisk affiliates do not have borrowing privileges at the Eskind Biomedical Library.

Term for Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing privileges at either institution are renewed each semester; privileges expire at the end of each semester.

Fisk Student and Faculty Use of Vanderbilt Libraries

Fisk students and faculty may use any of the libraries at Vanderbilt. Before coming to any of the Vanderbilt libraries, members of the Fisk community should check with the staff at their library. Information will be provided about access to the VU libraries and about the procedures to be followed to add borrowing privileges at Vanderbilt to their Fisk ID card.

A Vanderbilt access card is still required for entrance into the Vanderbilt libraries; for students, this access card is available for checkout from the Fisk Library. Faculty may obtain a personal access card through Vanderbilt.

While all libraries at Vanderbilt are participating in the access portion of this program, the Biomedical Library is not currently participating in the borrowing portion. Materials at the Biomedical Library may be requested through Athena.

Some libraries have limited access during evenings and weekends as the buildings in which they are housed are accessible only to the students and faculty in those schools during those hours. More details about access are available on Vanderbilt's access policy web page.

Once established, borrowing privileges for all Fisk students and faculty will be similar to those which apply to undergraduates, but these will vary by library.

Vanderbilt Student and Faculty Use of the Fisk Library

Vanderbilt students and faculty should arrange for use of the Fisk Library by inquiring at any of the Vanderbilt Library circulation desks. They will be provided with a printout of their record in ACORN which will provide sufficient information for Fisk library staff to use to create a record in the Fisk system for that semester. Vanderbilt students and faculty should take an up-to-date printout with them when they first go to the Fisk Library each semester. Once a record is created during a semester, no card or printout will be required.

Fisk Library's borrowing privileges for all Vanderbilt students and faculty are similar to those which apply to undergraduates.
