Electronic Reserves in the Vanderbilt University Libraries
Connect

Note on Printing from ERes: When printing a pdf document, please
do a test print of just a couple of pages. If the pages come out
with dark and light bands, then check the "Print as image"
box in the print menu window and try printing again.
Electronic Reserves services were initiated
in the Fall semester of 1999 to provide electronic access to supplementary
course reading "reserve" materials in support of the Vanderbilt
University curriculum. Faculty may request that reserve materials
for their course(s) be made available via ERes by contacting the
Course Reserves Manager in their particular library. For this purpose
we have created a new Electronic
Reserves Request Form. Please read the instructions, complete
the form and submit your request to the library.
Students may access these materials 24/7 by linking directly to
the Library's ERes
server. Note that a password may be required to access copyright
protected course materials. Please see your instructor to obtain
the course password.
The Heard Library uses the ERes
electronic reserves system developed by Docutek
Inc. to manage and provide access to reserve materials for Vanderbilt
users either on-campus, accessing the reserve files from within
the Heard Libraries, from the School of Arts and Sciences Computer
Labs or from the campus dormitories. Vanderbilt students, faculty
and staff using an Internet service provider (ISP) from off-campus
can access ERes using EZproxy, the library's new (Fall 2000) proxy
service, which requires that the user login to the service using
his/her VUnet ID and password.

NOTICE: New Copyright Policy as
July 1, 2001...copyright permissions must be obtained for all
copyright-protected electronic reserve materials. The VU Copyright

permissions for electronic reserve materials. Costs for permissions
will be charged back to the appropriate school (read
the announcement). All ERes courses which have copyright-protected
materials listed must be password protected. A course password
will be assigned by the library and provided to the course instructor.
Please visit the VU
Copyright Clearance Services web site for further information.
Published materials (articles, book chapters,
etc.) stored in the Electronic Reserves database are protected
under the Copyright Laws of the United States (Title 17 U.S. Code)
governing the making of photocopies of copyrighted material.
Electronic Reserve documents are often
made available as Adobe PDF (portable document format) files or
as links to articles in licensed online electronic resources.
Access to these PDF documents is through a web browser, such as
Netscape or MS Internet Explorer. Access to these materials is
limited to authorized Vanderbilt users only. Reading the files
online or printing a copy of the scanned document requires the
installation of the Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin on your computer.
