Advanced search options: Call number search

An item's call number is a code which identifies both the item's subject and its shelf position. This type of search will retrieve a browse list of call numbers close to the term you entered, as well as the title and author for each call number displayed.

  • Go to Advanced Search Options and select Call Number Search

  • Type all or the first part of a call number.

  • Select library. Browsing call numbers across all libraries is not possible.

    Selecting VUPROCESS browses materials that are on order or being processed. VUCENTERS browses the collections of departmental libraries such as the Margaret Cuninggim Women's Center Library. Items in the INTERNET library include both paid electronic subscriptions and freely accessible Internet resources that have been selected for inclusion by Vanderbilt librarians.


  • Select shelving scheme. Most items will have one of the following shelving schemes:

  • Set other limits as desired. Successful use of these limits requires specialized knowledge of how Acorn records are coded. If in doubt, retain the default setting (ANY).
